KARACHI, Feb 5: The Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) has announced that constructions with violations committed above 20 per cent as against the approved plans will not be regularised.

This was decided in a meeting held with the KBCA chief controller, Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, in the chair, said a KBCA release issued on Tuesday.

The authority has warned of stern action against those found violating the building bylaws.

The chief controller said that the decision had been taken in view of the misuse of the facility of regularisation at the time of completion of buildings.

He hoped that the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) decision would help check violation of building bylaws.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the directives of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal regarding installation of fire- fighting equipment in industrial units and multi-storeyed residential and commercial buildings.

It was decided to issue notices to all building owners, architects and engineers and in case of non-implementation of the directive, the water and sewerage connections of such buildings would be severed.

In this regard the survey reports of a two-member committee, headed by Controller of Buildings, Ashkarr Dawar, set up for all the 18 towns, were examined and owners of all buildings cautioned to ensure the installation of equipment to check fire incidents.

The meeting expressed its delight over the award of ISO-9001 certification to city government and described it a matter of pride.—Agencies
