Mansoor wins but Shahid, Amjad lose

KARACHI, April 9: Mansoor Zaman was the only Pakistani left in the prestigious British Open after his two compatriots lost in the opening round of the qualifiers, reports from London said Tuesday.

Mansoor defeated Liam Kenny of republic of Ireland 15-13 9-15 9-15 15-13 15-10 after a nerve tickling 80-minute dual. The world number 31 now faces Derek Ryan of Republic of Ireland, world number 38, for a place in the main rounds.

Pakistan’s Shahid Zaman lost to Ben Howell of England in a five-game marathon 15-4, 6-15, 8-15, 15-10 and 17-15. The match lasted 88 minutes.

Amjad Khan lost to Italy’s Davide Bianchetti 15-11 15-14, 15-5 in just 34 minutes, proving his lack of fitness.
