international exposure to the country’s top three ranking players in order to get positive results from them in the forthcoming Davis Cup Asia/ Oceania group two tie final against China.
Aisam told Dawn that Aqeel Khan, Aasim Shafik and Nomi Qamar were good players. But to sharpen their skill further they need international matches to deliver the goods.
Aisam suggested the federation to chalk out a comprehensive training programme of the Pakistan team and also arrange for them some foreign tours. He said that the federation should concentrate on the top four or five players of the country and provide them all kind of facilities.
He said that in his view the aim to qualify for Group I was not a big achievement, but retaining a seat there was a giant task for Pakistan, having a meagre number of international players.
While replying to a question, Aisam said that the PTF could do a lot for the players with the collaboration of the International Tennis Federation.
He said that the print media gave good coverage to the Davis Cup tie against Taiwan, but, the organisers could not make the event much popular as he did not see any banners in the city relating to the tie.
He said that at present he had a world ranking of 224 in singles and 162 in doubles. He said that his main aim was to enter in the list of top 100 players of the world.
Aisam who started his international career in 1998, will go to Kuwait on Friday to play in the ITF Future Tennis Tournament.
