GUJRANWALA, April 9: The Gujranwala range DIG dismissed on Tuesday an inspector and suspended from service another on charges of corruption and inefficiency.
Ugoki police station SHO inspector Farooq Husain was involved in corruption and embezzlement. An inquiry was conducted against him and he was found guilty.
Gujrat Saddar police station SHO inspector Sardar Bakhsh was suspended from service and directed to show cause on same charges.
The DIG forfeited one-year service of inspector Waqar Javed and ordered stoppage of two annual increments of traffic inspector Israr Jaffari on the charge of inefficiency.
Encroachments: The anti-encroachment squad of the Tehsil City Council removed various illegal projections and platforms constructed in front of houses and shops on Tuesday.
The squad also removed publicity boards of various companies fixed along the GT Road. These boards were fixed there without getting a no-objection certificate from the Tehsil City Council.
Meanwhile, the Tehsil City Council said no contract had been auctioned for the collection of any tax or fee.
A meeting presided over by Tehsil City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad was informed that the collection of Adda fee, toll, motor and other taxes by some contractors of the Saddar Tehsil Council was illegal. It warned the contractors and their employees not to collect taxes from tehsil city limits otherwise a legal action would be taken against them.
The meeting asked public transport vehicle owners not to pay taxes within the tehsil city limits.
SHOT DEAD: Unidentified assailants shot dead two people and injured another in separate incidents in and around the city on Tuesday.
Muhammad Yasir of Ferozewala Road was going to Jandiala Baghwala village with his uncle, Arshad, on a motorcycle. Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle, without a number plate, intercepted them and opened fire. Yasir died on the spot while Arshad was injured. His condition was stated to be critical in hospital.
Police said the attackers left their motorcycle on the road and took away the bike of Arshad.
Two unidentified assailants shot dead the son-in-law of landlord Sardar Muhammad in Bharoki Ahmadnagar village.
The attackers entered the house by scaling the boundary wall and opened fire on Willayat Husain as he came out of a room. He died on the spot.
The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.
Police have registered a case.
