PESHAWAR, April 9: Father of a minor boy has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Peshawar High Court, stating that his son has been kept in illegal detention by the Capital City Police for the last four days.

The petitioner, Jawed Akhter, has prayed to the court to direct the police to produce his son Mohammed Yasir and to set him at liberty.

Respondents in the petition are the chief of Capital City Police (CCP), Senior Superintendent of Police, Peshawar, and in-charge Police Bureau of Investigation.

The petitioner claimed that on the night between April 5 and 6, the officials of CCP raided the house of an accused Mohammed Hanif alias Gulu. He claimed that when the police failed to apprehend Gulu they took away his son Yasir, who was cousin of Gulu. He added that Yasir was a minor and he was not required in any case.

The petitioner stated that neither the detenu was charged in the FIR nor was he produced before any court. He added that his detention was illegal and unconstitutional.

It is worth mentioning that Gulu was required in car-theft cases and as he could not be apprehended the local police detained his relative so as to force him to surrender.
