MIRPURKHAS, Jan 18: Members of Shia Ulema Council and Jafria Students Organisation jointly staged a demonstration and held a sit-in at the Market Chowk here on Thursday. The protest was held against eight-hour electricity loadshedding on daily basis, inflation and terrorism.
The protesters, carrying banners and placards and led by Ziaul Hassan Naqvi, raised slogans against Hesco and the government. They condemned the government for its failure to provide wheat flour at appropriate rate, daily long hours of loadshedding, terrorism and inflation.
Mr Naqvi said that life had been paralysed due to lengthy power loadshedding on daily basis and accused Hesco officials of involvement in power theft.
He underlined that Majalis and other activities were badly affected due to prolonged loadshedding daily.
Meanwhile, a procession of 8th Muharram was taken out peacefully from Aza Khana Zohra at Chaki Para amid strict security arrangements here.
It was led by Allama Asad Naqvi while other participants read elegies for the martyrs of Karbala during their way.
The procession passed from different areas and roads including Pir Jilani Road, M. A. Jinnah Road, Station Road and culminated at the Station Chowk.
MQM: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Mirpurkhas zonal incharge, Saleem Razzaq, accompanied by the district naib nazim Zafar Ahmed Kamali, taluka nazim Ghulam Dastagir Khan and party candidate for PS-64 Faheem Altafi, visited different Imambargahs in the city.
They visited Bhansinghabad Imambargah, Hyderi Imambargah (Satellite Town), Kazmeen Imambargah, Hazara Imambargah and Aza Khana Zohra at Chaki Para.
They also met with Shia Ulema and Zakirs including Allama Asad Naqvi, Sagheer Naqvi, Allama Syed Zia Haider Naqvi, Syed Mohsin Kazmi, Syed Tasawwur Kazmi, Syed Najamul Hassan, Syed Ali Qasim, Syed Aijaz Rizvi and Syed Ishtiaque Hussain.
