ATTOCK, Jan 17: Local Shiite leaders have condemned the suicide bombing at an Imambargah in Peshawar on Thursday evening, saying all such acts of terrorism were aimed at destroying peace in the country.
Anjuman Janisaran-i-Hussain office-bearers said the terrorist acts taking place in the country were part of the conspiracy by anti-Islam forces against Muslim unity. Certain elements are trying to create rifts among the Muslim Ummah by promoting sectarian violence, they added.
“Undoubtedly, it is a highly condemnable and tragic incident that had made the nation sad, but people should remain calm in this crucial hour,” they said.
WORRISOME SITUATION: Law enforcement agencies that are battling against the surge in suicide attacks late Thursday placed their personnel on heightened level of alertness in the wake of rocket firing incident at Kamra and the bombing in Peshawar.
Like other parts of the country, police and troops deployed in Attock were already placed on full alert as part of the Muharram security plan, but the recent incidents forced the authorities to issue special directives for a higher degree of vigilance.
