LAHORE: PTU to launch protest drive

LAHORE, April 6: The Punjab Teachers Union joint action committee has announced the launch of a protest campaign if the government tries to denationalize educational institutions in the province.

PTU president Jan-i-Alam Khan said the denationalization and privatization of educational institutions would make it impossible for poor and middle class people to provide education to their children. He said the PTU action committee had also criticized the government for promoting class system while offering different syllabi in different streams of education.

The committee claimed that there was anarchy in education department as the distribution of powers under the devolution plan had yet not been completed. The committee also demanded that the government should proportionately increase rural and urban allowances. It also demanded the restoration of frozen allowances.

The committee also decided to hold a seminar to create awareness about the issues creating problems for teacher community at the Lahore Press Club on April 10.
