KASUR, Jan 15: Police allegedly tortured to death a youngster held for violating ban on pillion riding on Monday when he refused to bribe some constables in the limits of B-Division police station.

Azadar Hussain, of Bangla Kambova, with his father, Bashir Ahmed, was travelling on his motorcycle to attend Majlis-i-Aza, when constables Qaisar Rafiq, Mubashar Shahzad and Awais held them on Ferozepur Road near the DPO office.

Bashir says the three cops allegedly asked them to give Rs500 or they would be detained for violating the ban. Azadar, 20, refused to pay the amount, saying that he was going to drop his father to Majlis. His refusal offended the policemen who thrashed Azadar violently. Bashir said he rushed his son to the District Headquarters Hospital where he died after four hours. The victim did record his statement with the police before his death.

B-Division police on the directions of Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Abbas Qureshi registered a case against the accused officials. Later, the DPO told a press conference the three policemen had been arrested, with their case referred for speedy trial. The DPO added he would do his best to get them the punishment they deserved.
