LAHORE, Jan 14: The Punjab government has decided to cancel wheat quota of the mills deviating from agreed flour policy and transfer the same to those abiding by the agreement.

This was decided on Monday at a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique and attended by Flour Mills Association representatives, besides Rangers’ deputy director-general, home secretary, food secretary and Lahore DCO.

The chief secretary said the Punjab government was currently having 1.29 metric tons wheat, while mills in the province had 232,000 metric tons wheat. Besides, the imported wheat was also being sent to Punjab from Karachi, he added.

The chief secretary also said the trucks transporting wheat would be allowed to pass through cities at any time of day, relaxing the policy of allowing their movement after 9pm alone. He said the decision to cancel wheat quota for non-cooperating flourmills would not be withdrawn.

The association representatives assured the chief secretary that they would cooperate with the Punjab government.
