RAWALPINDI, April 5: Fire broke out in the domestic lounge of Islamabad International Airport on Friday, the airport authorities said. However, nobody was hurt in the incident.
The fire broke out at about 6pm when a 4kg gas cylinder in the domestic lounge developed a leak, creating panic among passengers and airport authorities.
The fire slightly disrupted the check-in of passengers for the Karachi-bound PK-309. However, the flight’s departure was not delayed.
According to airport authorities, the fire erupted when welding was in progress as part of some construction work in the domestic departure lounge.
The airport management tried to control the fire with the help of fire-extinguishers but failed in their efforts and called in the firefighters who controlled the fire. No damages were reported.
In another incident involving a gas cylinder, a man was injured when a vehicular cylinder burst at RA Bazaar.
Jehanzeb, the owner of a Suzuki pick-up (AD-4515), was getting the gas cylinder of his vehicle refilled at a gas station when the cylinder exploded, leaving him injured and his vehicle damaged.
