Dacoit shot dead by his accomplice

SHEIKHUPURA, April 5: A dacoit was killed with a bullet fired by his accomplice on resistance during a dacoity bid late Thursday night at Phianwali village near Safdrabad, some 55 km from here.

Four armed dacoits sneaked into the house of Gulzar and started collecting valuables. The owner of the house woke and tried to resist. The intruders became jittery and opened fire on him which hit one of their accomplices instead, injuring him seriously. The other outlaws managed to escape, leaving their injured accomplice on the spot. The injured outlaw, later identified as Saleem, was shifted to hospital where he died.

Safdrabad police are looking into the matter.

ARRESTED: Muridke police claim to have arrested five outlaws involved in heinous crimes after a brief shootout here on Friday.

Police also recovered sophisticated weapons, including a snatched car (FDB-7386).

A police spokesman said the City police on a tip-off conducted a raid on their hideout in a house located adjacent to the city area. Taking in the situation, the outlaws opened fire on police which was returned. After a brief exchange of firing, police arrested outlaws including Younas, Shaukat and Amanat.

Further investigation is under way, he added.

INJURED: Twelve passengers received injuries, four of them serious, in a traffic mishap here on Friday evening.

A Faisalabad bound bus overturned near Rupali Textile Mills when its driver lost control over the steering in his bid to save a cyclist. As a result, 12 passengers sustained injuries while four of them — Mushtaq, Aziz Ahmad, Muhammad Hussain and Sakina Bibi suffered grievous wounds. They were admitted a local hospital. The bus driver escaped from the scene.
