FAISALABAD, Jan 12: Army troops have arrived here to help the district administration and police maintain peace in Muharram.
The commander of the military battalion, Brig Kamran, held a meeting with the administration and police officials here on Saturday and reviewed arrangements to maintain law and order in the district. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Aslam Tareen and District Coordination Officer Azam Suleman Khan briefed Kamran on the security plan.
Tareen said peace committees had been set up at the district, town and police station levels to enlist support of local religious figures for peace in Muharram. He said firebrand speakers had been banned in the district, and no one would be allowed to deliver provocative speeches during ‘majalis’ and Muharram processions.
Khan said ‘foolproof’ arrangements had been made to maintain law and order in the district. He said crisis management cells and control rooms had also been set up at various offices for the purpose and focal persons had been appointed for affective and efficient discharge of duties.
Kamran said the army and Rangers had assumed their duties and shall assist the civil administration as and when required.
