MITHI, Jan 12: The PPP leaders of district Tharparkar have warned the government that they would go on hunger strike if the District Police Officer (DPO) of Tharparkar was not transferred immediately.
Expressing profound sorrow and grief on the brutal murder of Ms Benazir Bhutto at Nagarparkar on Friday, the PPP leaders of local chapter, alleged that the DPO has become a tool in the hands of the Arbabs and if he was not transferred within 48 hours, all six PPP candidates contesting election from Thar, along with a large number of PPP activists, would set up a hunger camp outside the Karachi Press Club.
Addressing a select gathering at Khoso House, Sharjeel Inam Memon, PPP candidate for PS-62 (Nagarparkar), alleged that Arbabs were planning to rig the coming election by using DCO, district nazim, DPO, SHOs and other officials as their tools and pledged to foil their nefarious designs. He demanded transfer of DPO of Tharparkar.
Speaking on the occasion, former MNA Dr Khatumal Jeevan, remarked that Benazir Bhutto became immortal by sacrificing her life for the rights of the downtrodden and the best way to pay her homage was to continue her mission. Dr Jeevan alleged that the Arbabs won the previous elections through rigging by using police and Patels and added that lawlessness increased in Thar during the rule of Arbab.
Speaking on the occasion, the district president of PPP and candidate for NA-229, Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, asserted that apprehending a sharp decline in PML-Q graph, some vested interests, are fanning hatred by publishing advertisements in the national newspapers and demanded of the election commission to take notice of it.
“We have no objection at the investigation being conducted by the Scotland yard team, but issuing varying statements regarding the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, has created doubts in our minds, hence the case should be investigated by UNO team,” Dr Malani added.
Besides others, PPP candidates, Imam Ali Samejo (NA-230), Dost Ali Rahimoon (PS-63), Pesumal Akrani (PS-61), advocate Maeen Bajir, Ms Malika Walhari, president PPP ladies wing Umerkot, Abdul Ghani Khoso, former nazim taluka Nagarparkar, Pir Bashir and Agedino Dal also spoke on the occasion.
