SUKKUR, Jan 10: All judges deposed after the proclamation of the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) will be reinstated when the Constitution is restored, says Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas.

Addressing members of the Sukkur District Bar here on Thursday, he said no individual was empowered to amend or promulgate the Constitution and all steps taken under the PCO were unlawful, because a larger bench of the Supreme Court had already set aside the orders of declaring emergency and suspending the Constitution. Justice Bhagwandas said that by upholding the law, the country could be steered out of the present crisis. He said that providing quick justice would resolve most of the problems faced by the nation.

Stressing the need for accelerating the struggle for the rule of law, he said the legal fraternity, journalists and the civil society were playing an important role for upholding the Constitution and restoration of democracy.

He said judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, were grateful to lawyers, journalists and civil society for their support.—PPI
