KARACHI: New academic session begins at KU

KARACHI, Jan 10: The new academic session commenced at the University of Karachi on Thursday with orientation classes attended by several thousand students at almost all departments.

The newcomers were welcomed by KU students’ adviser Nusrat Idrees and other staff members at the main Silver Jubilee Gate.

Activists of various student organisations showered flower petals as the students walked into the campus. They also distributed schedule of classes and point buses, besides the academic calendar.

In the classrooms, heads of departments impressed upon the new students concentrate on their studies and follow the university’s rules and regulations strictly. They reminded the students that 75 per cent attendance was a must for their eligibility to appear in the examinations.

The students were welcomed to benefit from the valuable literature, including latest reference and research books, modern scientific and other equipment, etc., besides the knowledge and experience of highly qualified teaching staff at the university.

LLM results

The University of Karachi on Thursday announced the results of LLM (final) annual exa-mination-2007.

Syed Zia Mamnoon s/o Syed Mamnoon Hasan of the Government Islamia Law College secured first position with 528 marks while Arshad Mahmood s/o Fazal Hussain of the Government S.M. Law College with 515 marks and Syed Najmul Hasan s/o Syed Ziaul Hasan of the Government Islamia Law College with 504 marks secured second and third positions, respectively.

The pass percentage stood at 51.65.

Meanwhile a KU release on Thursday said that the examination forms for BSc (MT) annual examination-2007 would be accepted from Jan 10 to 21. Candidates may submit the forms with the prescribed fee of Rs3,050 at their respective college.

Postponed papers

The BA and BSc papers which were scheduled for Dec 28 but could not be held in view of the recent violent disturbances in the city will now be held on January 11, according to a spokesman for the University of Karachi.

The papers — International Relations-II of BA (Pass) regular/external candidates and Chemistry-IV and Economics-II of the BSc (Pass) annual examinations — will be conducted at the centres and time schedules already notified.—Agencies
