Plea against Judicial allowance returned

LAHORE, Jan 9: The Lahore High Court (LHC) registrar on Wednesday returned a petition challenging “raise in the judicial allowance for the superior courts judges” because notification sought to be annulled had not been attached with the petition.

The office of the LHC registrar said the petition should have been filed after enclosing the notification of the raise.

The petitioner-lawyer said the caretaker government, having limited authority to watch day-to-day affairs of the country, was not competent to approve the said legislation of permanent nature.

The president of Pakistan, while amending Order 3 of 1997 on Jan 3, had enhanced the judicial allowance of the Supreme Court judges from Rs15,000 to Rs50,000 and that of the High Court judges from Rs12,000 to Rs40,000. —Reporter
