PESHAWAR, April 4: “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto brought political consciousness in the oppressed people and enabled them to wage struggle for rights. The country at this critical juncture needs political vision and philosophy of Bhutto to steer the nation out of prevailing crisis.”
This was stated by leaders of Pakistan People’s Party at a gathering to observe death anniversary of former Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto here at People’s House.
Speaking on the occasion, leader of party, Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao paid glowing tributes to Bhutto, saying that he laid down his life but refused to bow before oppression.
He said the founder chairman of PPP was not only a political leader but was a movement. He contended that Shaheed Bhutto had brought revolution in the lives of the masses.
The PPP leader resented that the unprecedented increase in the prices of utilities and imposition of GST on medicines would further perpetuate the woes of the people. He said the prevailing political vacuum would linger on the problems. He added that the flawed economic policies of the government had created uncertainty in the country.
He said sacrifices of both Bhutto and Hayat Sherpao were national assets and their contributions were guiding principles for the people. He hailed the decision of Aftab Sherpao to return home. He added that the party would be made the true representative of the poor.
On this occasion speakers condemned the local administration for having resorted to violence over People’s Youth Organization.
They said that the PYO demonstration was peacefully arranged for the release of Aftab Sherpao in front of accountability court.
Former speaker of the NWFP Assembly, Saif-ur-Rehman Kiyani, former ministers, Makhdoomzada Murid Kazim, Iqbal Hussain Khattak, Mian Noor Khan, Shad Mohammad Khattak, former MPAs, Ghani Mohammad Khan, Sher Akbar Khan, Bakht Baidar Khan, Baidar Hussain Shah, Jehangir Khan and PPP leaders Saeed Ahmed Khan, Malik Zarawar Khan, Haji Mohammad Baz Khan Wardag, Aurangzeb Mohmand, Mehmud- ul-Islam and Malik Dost Mohammad Khan were also present on the occasion.
