KARACHI: Teacher-student forums planned

KARACHI, April 4: The Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba is working for the formation of joint forums of teachers and students to identify ills in the education system and make coordinated efforts to rectify them, said the Nazim of the IJT, Naved Anwar, on Thursday.

Speaking to newsmen in a local hotel, Mr Anwar said the proposed joint forums at all educational institutions would fill in the gap created by the imposition of ban on student union activities.

He said the purpose of these forums was to remove misgivings that had developed between teachers and students during the last 20 years and improve discipline at educational institutions.

Flanked by the IJT’s Karachi Nazim Monem Zafar and Information Secretary Shoaib Ahmad, the IJT chief said he opposed the exorbitant increase in fees in the government-run institutions.

He criticized the policy of denationalisation of educational institutions in Sindh.

He said that in addition to spending the fund raised through “book week” campaigns on students every year, the IJT had been arranging crash teaching classes for students and helping poor students of Gilgit, Murree and Quetta in their preparation for examinations.
