VEHARI, Jan 7: The Mailsi police have registered a case against 17 people, including city union council nazim and 30 to 35 unidentified people, for rioting, looting valuables and setting a van stand on fire on Dec 28, 2007 during a demonstration to protest the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
The police registered the case on a complaint filed by stand manager Muhammad Amin Somoro on Sunday under Sections 382, 436, 427, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complainant alleged that the van stand was closed down to mourn the assassination of Benazir but city union nazim Rao Muhammad Ishaq and Rao Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Adnan Ghauri, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Ayub, Muhammad Shahzad, Amanat Ali, Sharafat Ali, Khalil Ahmad, Riasat Ali, Ali, Chaudhry Muhammad Kashif Javed, Muhammad Nadeem, Goga Pehlwan, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Javed, Shozab Khan along with around 35 people attacked the van stand.
They broke the locks of the office and looted Rs22,000 and later they set on fire valuables worth Rs185,000, he added. No arrest, however, has been made till the filing of this report on Monday.
