LAHORE, April 3: The three-year-old dark-bay colt Paddock Fancy completed a hat-trick of victories for owner Mian Mahir Ahmad when he won the feature event run over six furlongs during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races on Wednesday.
The winner was backed at 40 to 100 and was astutely steered by jockey Shahid Rehman. Paddock Fancy defeated the second favourite chestnut filly Value Of Life by a neck, after the two runners were engaged in a see-saw tussle which drew wild cheers from the racing fans. The bay horse Rukhsh finished third, a distance behind with the chestnut gelding Chrysler completing the frame, another two-and-a-quarter lengths behind among the 10 runners.
Trained by A. B. Malik, Paddock Fancy clocked one minute 18 2/5 seconds over the distance. Paddock Fancy had won two back-to- back races earlier.
Paddock Fancy gave jockey Shahid Rehman a well-deserved double when in the third race when the champion rider cruised in on the even-money favourite chestnut colt Rocket Fuel. The colt scored a comfortable win over the fancied chestnut gelding Lot Of Thanks.
The outstanding performances of the day came in the fourth race when Riaz-ul-Haq Qureshie’s chestnut colt Lucky Shot outclassed his 11 rivals by storming home to an easy success.
He beat the joint favourite bay horse Blu’s High by five lengths. This was the maiden victory of the colt who was ridden smartly by jockey Shehzad Iqbal and is trained by Akhtar Mir.
Mir excelled among the trainers, saddling two winners. He first sent out Majestic Prince in the opener and then followed it up on Lucky Shot The punters reaped a rich harvest when five well-backed horses won in a card of six events. All races were contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.
