KARACHI, April 3: District and sessions judge, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, sentenced a man to a five-year term for snatching cash and jewellery from a woman lawyer at gunpoint.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Mehboob Ali, who was booked on Dec 14, 1996, by the City Courts police for depriving Saleha Naeem of cash and gold ornaments.

The convict will have to undergo an additional one-month term in case of default on payment.

Meanwhile, additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, sentenced a man to a three-year term for possessing an unlicensed pistol.

Accused Salahuddin, who was on bail, tried to flee the court when the judge handed down the sentence to him. However, he was caught by the police.
