They were protesting against the term back policy, compulsory 75 per cent attendance to qualify for appearing in the examination, inordinate increase in fees, shortage of point buses and for the resolution of other problems.
The JSSF students, who were led by Habibullah Shar and Rehman Joyo, raised slogans against the university Vice Chancellor, Dr Abdur Rehman Memon.
Talking to newsmen, Habibullah Shar, the general secretary of JSSF, Mehran University unit, said that due to the “anti-students” term back policy, 75 per cent students of 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 batches would be deprived of admission to third and final year.
About 75 per cent compulsory attendance, Shar claimed that this was not required under the law.
He said that the increase in fees had been effected to the tune of 175 per cent as a result of which the doors of technical education on poor students had been closed.
He said due to shortage of point buses, the future engineers of the country were being forced to travel on the roofs of the buses.
He said the university was charging Rs1,800 from each student under the transport head, but they were being deprived of transport facility.
