KARACHI, April 3: A judicial magistrate gave, on Wednesday, the three suspected gang-rapists of two sisters in police custody for interrogation till seven days.

The suspects, Ismatullah, a constable posted at Saddar Town, Malik Safeer, a dismissed cop and Kashif, a laundry shop owner, were arrested on Tuesday for raping two sisters in their Ranchhore Lines flat on April 1.

Their two accomplices, Qamar Iqbal, a constable of CIA Saddar, and Malik Hasnat, s/o Inspector Malik Shabbir Awan, are still untraceable.

The gang of five had barged into the flat of Abdus Sattar, held the inmates hostage at gunpoint, tied up the house owner and his son, and gang-raped his two daughters.

The judicial magistrate, Irum Jahangir, ordered the police to produce the three suspects before the court on April 10.

Meanwhile, the police, on Wednesday, arrested another alleged rapist policeman involved in the gang-rape in Ramaswami, the police said.

A senior police official said that the police arrested Malik Qamar, a police constable posted at Investigation-II and son of a retired inspector, Malik Ahmed Khan.

The arrested policeman was among the five culprits who had violated the honour of two sisters in front of their father and brother at the latter’s home in Ramaswami on April 1. The five culprits, after committing the crime, had fled the scene.

The police, who first refused to register the case on the complaint of the father of the ill-fated girls, later arrested Malik Safeer, Mohammad Kashif and Asmatullah involved in the ghastly incident.

The police were still looking for Malik Hasnat, s/o Inspector Malik Shabbir Awan, who was supposed to have masterminded the crime, the police official said.

Although shops and markets remained open in Ramaswami on Wednesday, a wave of anger and resentment against the police department still prevailed among the citizens, who demanded early action and exemplary punishment to the culprits.

The Inspector General of Police, Syed Kamal Shah, directed the police to prepare the Challan against the culprits and submit it in court as soon as possible.

A spokesman for the Sindh Police said the that Kamal Shah suspended the SHO of the Nabi Bux police station, Zahid Hussain, and directed the initiation of inquiry against him for not registering an FIR on the complaint of the girls’ father. If Zahid Hussain was found involved, strict action would be taken against him accordingly, the spokesman said.

Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, has also severely condemned the criminal assault committed by armed culprits on the two girls in the jurisdiction of the Nabi Bux police limits, and declared that those involved in the crime would not escape the wrath of law, adds APP.

During his visit to the residence of the ill-fated girls on Tuesday night, he assured the family that he would talk to the Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, and recommend the trial of the case before an anti-terrorism court.

The Nazim offered his profound regrets over the sad incident to the father of the girls. “Your daughters are my daughters, and I have come to put my hand of affection on their heads,” the Nazim told the grieved father and his family members.

He told them that the absconding culprits would be brought to book soon and they will get due punishment for their sins.

“Justice will be certainly and surely dispensed and it would be the kind of justice that the whole city will witness.”

The police registered FIR No: 58/2002 under Section 10(4) of Zina Ordinance, says a press release of the CPO issued here on Wednesday.

Capital City Police Officer, (CCPO), Karachi, Asad Jehangir, has instructed the police officer concerned to complete investigation in the case at the earliest and present the Challan in the court of law.
