SIALKOT, Jan 1: A court on Tuesday extended for two days the judicial remand of Mian Javaid Abrar, who is facing trial for installing surveillance cameras in the bridal dressing rooms and female bathrooms of his marriage hall and making videos of undressed brides and other women.

Abrar’s remand was extended after the Kotwali police produced him in the court of a judicial magistrate. He is currently on remand in the Sialkot district jail.

On the other hand, police and other law-enforcement agencies continued a search for surveillance cameras in marriage halls across the district. The police began this search secretly on Monday under pressure of the local religious, social, business and political figures.

Official sources said the district government would issue special clearance certificates to marriage halls after completion of this search.

Police arrested Abrar, the owner of Grand Hill Marriage Hall located at Sialkot Fort, last week and registered a case against him under sections 386, 500, 506-II and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police claimed to have seized from Abrar several videos of brides and other women when they were changing their dress.
