KHAR, Dec 29: The Jamaat-i-Islami has geared up its anti-poll campaign in Bajaur tribal agency and took out a protest procession in the Inayat Kallay bazaar here on Saturday.
Addressing the meeting, JI provincial naib amir and ex-MNA Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid accused President Pervez Musharraf of staging an ‘election drama’ in order to prolong his ‘unconstitutional’ rule.
He said the January polls were meant to implement the US agenda in the country.
He said that without an independent judiciary and free press, fair elections could not be held.
He said the Jamaat had decided to boycott the polls in the best interest of people and the country, adding that all parties contesting the elections had become a tool to implement the American agenda.
The Jamaat announced that it would organise road caravans on Jan 1 and 2 in connection with the election boycott.
