LAHORE, Dec 29: CNG and petrol pumps remained closed in the city on Friday causing immense problems to the public as most of the people could not come out on roads owing to non-availability of fuel.

CNG and petrol pumps were shut down soon after the news about the assassination of Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto spread like a jungle fire all over the country on Thursday evening. A large number of people faced problems who were in their offices at that time and had no enough fuel in their vehicles to go home. They adapted alternative to go home.

A few CNG and petrol pumps opened on Friday afternoon after the burial of Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bux and within no time long queues of vehicles could be seen there. According to an estimate, less than five per cent of the vehicles were on roads on Friday and still there were queues at CNG and petrol pumps.

Rangers: Rangers have been deployed in 10 cities of Punjab to maintain law and order disrupted after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

According to an official press release issued here on Friday, over 5,000 personnel have been deployed in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.

Deployed on the request of the Punjab government, the rangers have been directed to remain alert to meet any untoward situation in other cities of the province. The rangers have also been deputed in Islamabad.

The Punjab rangers deputed at the border will continue to perform their routine duties, the release said.—APP
