LAHORE, Dec 28: British foreign secretary David Milliband on Friday phoned PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to express concern over bullet shower at his election rally in Rawalpindi.

He also expressed his worries at the growing unrest and lawlessness in Pakistan, hoping that the political leadership would be able to steer the country out of the crisis.

According to a press release issued by the party, Mr Sharif thanked Milliband and said Pakistan was a moderate society, but Musharraf’s policy of resolving each and every issue through the barrel of gun was stoking extremism.

He alleged that Musharraf was hoodwinking the whole world under the fight-against-extremism slogan. He said no good could be expected of a person who had abrogated the basic law of the land and ‘demolished’ the Supreme Court.

He also informed the foreign dignitary that the PML-N boycotted the polls as the conditions created in the country were not conducive to electioneering. The boycott was also meant to show solidarity with the family of slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and the people of Sindh, he added.
