KARACHI: Man run over by bus

KARACHI, April 1: A man was run over by a bus in the city on Monday.

The police said that Abdul Sattar Ansari, aged 40, was knocked down by a speeding Hyderabad-bound bus (P-0095) on Jehangir Road No 1 while walking across the road. He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The police claimed to have arrested the bus driver, identified as Mashooq Ali, and impounded the bus.

A nine-year-old boy, Arif Mehmood, was seriously injured when a Suzuki pickup van knocked him down in Firdaus Colony, Gulbahar.

The police said that the driver of the pickup took the injured boy to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, from where he was referred to the JPMC.

DROWNED: Body of a young man was recovered from the sea near Port Qasim on Monday.

Edhi sources said that body of an unidentified man, who was in his mid-30s, was fished out from the sea near the Fauji Terminal at Port Qasim. The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

The police could not immediately ascertain how the man drowned in the sea.

After post-mortem, the body had been kept at the Edhi’s morgue for identification, the police said.

CARJACKING: Seventeen vehicles — six cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Four motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.
