GUJRAT, Dec 13: Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, the former federal minister and PPP nominee for NA-105 and PP-111 (Gujrat), has questioned the impartiality of the chief election commissioner (CEC).

Mr Mukhtar claimed that the CEC had taken no action on his complaints regarding misuse of powers and violation of code of conduct by district nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain who was running an election campaign of his brother, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Mr Mukhtar claimed that his opponents did not enjoy popular support of the people in Gujrat because of their involvement in corruption.

It is learnt that Mr Mukhtar has also sent written complaints to the British high commissioner and the US ambassador in Islamabad in relation to the alleged violation of code of conduct by the district nazim.

Refuting the charges leveled against him, district nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain said that like his party leader Benazir Bhutto Mr Mukhtar had also sought help from his foreign masters.

He advised Mr Mukhtar to focus on his election campaign instead of involving him in a blame game.
