HYDERABAD, Dec 12: Caretaker Sindh Home Minister Brigadier (retd) Akhtar Zamin has said that a foolproof security plan had been prepared to ensure that elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere. He said the security plan would be further improved.

He said this while talking to newsmen at the circuit house here on Wednesday.

Mr Zamin said that under this security plan 130,000 security personnel of police, Rangers and Qaumi Razakars would be deployed at 15,000 polling stations.

He said that 2,500 to 3,000 polling stations had been considered as sensitive.

The purpose of the caretaker set-up is to conduct the forthcoming elections in free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner, he said.

Akhtar Zamin said the law and order situation was under control and hoped that the Army would not be called in.

The caretaker minister said a strategy to combat the threat of suicide bombing had been devised.

The security plan had been divided into pre- and post-election situation keeping in view the commencement of Muharram-ul-Haram after the elections, he added.

He said the police have to play a vital role to facilitate the political parties and candidates during their election campaigning. However, he made it clear that 100 per cent success could only be achieved with the cooperation of political parties and contesting candidates.

He said the purpose of his Hyderabad visit was to observe the situation and take account of the needs of the security plan and also to meet political leaders and contesting candidates to allay their apprehensions, if any, and added that he had already met with political leaders in Karachi in this regard. He said after Dec 16, the situation would become clearer when the lists of the contesting candidates would be finalised.
