LAHORE, Dec 11: Former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi and former industries minister Jehangir Tareen are responsible for the flour crisis and both of them have accused each other of creating the crisis, says PPP Information Secretary Farzana Raja.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ms Raja said flour was being sold at Rs22 to 25 per kg despite the fact that the country harvested a bumper wheat crop in 2006-07 due to the worst shortage in the country.

Flour shortage and black-marketing were the result of the PML-Q government, she said, adding the federal government allowed export of 0.5 million tons of wheat without ensuring its availability in the domestic market just to help bigwigs exploit the situation to their maximum benefit.—Reporter
