Move against Murray College decried

SIALKOT, Dec 8: Educationists, teachers and the taught have strongly opposed the proposal to denationalise the Government Murray College, the alma mater of Allama Iqbal.

They see it as a conspiracy of depriving the students of higher education and call it “an anti-educational step”, demanding that the government should pay no heed to the call.

The college teachers, students and other staff at a meeting expressed concern over the denationalisation proposal and urged the government through a resolution that it should change its mind.

Murray College Sialkot Principal Prof Qamar Malik told Dawn that local Christian community had submitted an application with the caretaker federal government, demanding denationalisation of the Murray College.

The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association too convened an emergency meeting to give vent to disquiet against the Christian community’s move.
