JHANG, March 30: A man who allegedly opened fire on the Jhang city police station on Thursday, was admitted to the DHQ hospital in serious condition on Saturday.
Accused Ishaq was kept in police station for more than 24 hours and subjected to severe torture. He was produced before a high level medical board who, after examining him, confirmed 13 grievous injuries on his body and recommended his admission to the hospital. He was kept in a private room under tight security.
Ishaq had fired shots at SHO Ali Akhtar Ansari who trespassed the premises of the former without any search warrants and abused and molested the women present in the house. The police officer took his brother Ishfaq to police station and kept him in illegal custody.
Meanwhile, a Jhang city police station official, on condition of anonymity, said initially no member of accused Ishaq’s family was nominated in the FIR No 54, which was made the ground for raiding his house. But after the firing incident took place, his brother was implicated through a supplementary statement.
He said a case was registered against Ishaq on the complaint of ASI Alam Sher instead of SHO Ali Akthar Ansari.
Ramzan, the elder brother of Ishaq, told Dawn that the way police humiliated the family was unimaginable in a civilized society.
He also confirmed the reports that police had demanded bribe for the release of his brother Ishfaq, which provoked Ishaq to resort to violence.
Ramzan also demanded a high level probe into the affair.
