KARACHI: DIG sent to prison

KARACHI, Dec 5: The administrative judge of the Accountability Court-I on Wednesday sent the deputy inspector-general of the Sindh police, Altaf Hussain Bhatti, to jail custody and directed the NAB to arrest the other 10 accused in the case and produce them in court on the next date of hearing.

On Dec 4, the National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, arrested DIG Altaf Hussain Bhatti for misusing his authority to acquire more than 500 acres of government land in Thatta district.

A reference (59/2007) was filed against him by the NAB, accusing the DIG of illegally transferring pieces of land in fake names and later getting them allotted to himself, his family members and other relatives.

The administrative judge of the Accountability Court-I, Syed Aley Maqbool Rizvi, had issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of 11 accused, including the DIG. The court fix Dec 18 as the next date of hearing.
