LDA to implement SC orders on high-rises

LAHORE, Dec 3: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will ensure implementation of the directives given by the Supreme Court in May to ensure safety and structural stability in the construction of high-rise commercial buildings, hotels and plazas and provision of adequate parking arrangements to prevent disruption of traffic in their vicinity.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by Governor Lt. Gen Khalid Maqbul (retired) at the Governor’s House here on Monday which was attended by LDA Director General Muhammad Arif Khan, Commercialisation Director Wasim Ahmed Khan and Town Planner Chaudhry Muhammad Akram. It was also decided that the guidelines given by the apex court in respect of LDA building bylaws would be strictly adhered to.

Meanwhile, a delegation of renowned international hotel designers and builders consisting of Star Wood vice-president Collin Evans and B.M. Associates, Miami, architects Roberto Linhares and Maurico Rodritgues also met the governor and expressed interest in the construction of a five-star hotel in the provincial metropolis.

The governor informed the developers that all the government departments would cooperate with them in accordance with the LDA’s rules and regulations.
