ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: Top seed Aqeel Khan, Asim Shafik, Jalil Khan and Mohammad Shafik reached into the semi-finals of the men’s single event of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship by beating Tanveer Ashiq, Inam Gul, Yasir Khan and Nomi Qamar respectively on Saturday here at Islamabad Club.
The semi-finals and final will be played on Sunday (today) at the same venue.
On Saturday, in the first quarterfinal top seed Aqeel Khan outplayed Tanveer Ashiq in straight games 2-0 by playing some powerful strokes.
Mohammad Shafik toppled 4th seed Nomi Qamar 2-0 to register an upset victory in the second quarterfinal.
In the third quarterfinal of the men’s singles Asim Shafik ousted Inam Gul 2-0.
Jalil Khan, who is the younger brother of Aqeel Khan, thrashed Yasir Khan 2-0 in the 4 th quarterfinal of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Championship. It is pertinent to mention that Yasir Khan is also younger brother of winner Jalil Khan. The score-line was 6-4 and 6-3. Aqeel Khan will take on Mohammad Shafik and Jalil Khan will clash with Asim Shafik in the semi-finals on Sunday (today) at the same place.
The ladies single fixture saw a major upset of the championship when 4th seed Ushna Sohail toppled top seed Sara Mansoor in straight games 2-0.

Boys’ Under- 13 (semi-finals): Kashanul Haq beat Adil Kohari 3-5, 5-3, 4-2; Nameer Shamsi beat Salman Bin Saleem 4-2, 4-1.
Ladies singles (semi-finals): Ushna Sohail beat Sara Mansoor 6-1, 7-5; Anoosha Aslam beat Quratulain 3-6, 6-1, 7-5
