Candidates asked to complete formalities

MARDAN, Dec 1: Two Pakistan People’s Party candidates and one Awami National Party candidate were asked here on Saturday to fulfil certain conditions for the acceptance of their nomination papers.

The respective returning officers after scrutiny of the papers asked two of them to produce their graduation degrees and one to bring his Income Tax clearance certificate.

The ANP candidate for NA-9, Mardan-I, Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti and the PPP candidate for PF-24, Muazzam, have been asked to submit their graduation degrees till Monday.

The PPP candidate for NA-9, Khanzada Khan, has been asked to submit a clearance certificate from the Income Tax department.

Meanwhile, nomination papers of Amresh Khan, a former official of the Communication & Works department and a candidate for the PF-25, were approved. A corruption case is pending against him in the Supreme Court. Mr Amresh is the brother of former district nazim of Mardan and senior vice-president of PML-Q, Haji Raza Khan. He is contesting the election on a PML-Q ticket.

APP adds: Meanwhile, Union Council Gogar Gari Nazim Kishwar Khan Advocate on Saturday resigned and announced that he would take part in the elections.

In a statement issued here, Mr Khan said he would contest the elections on the NWFP assembly’s PF-26 constituency from the JUI(F) platform.
