PESHAWAR, Dec 1: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) has planned to field its candidates on all 99 general seats of the NWFP Assembly, if the Jamaat-i-Islami withdrew its candidates from the contest.
Party sources said the JUI (F) would not leave the field open to other parties in case the JI boycotted the elections.
A few days ago, provincial council of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal had decided that the JI would contest the election on 31 seats and the JUI (F) on 34 constituencies. A decision about the remaining 22 seats was deferred.
The JI had directed its candidates on Friday to withdraw their nomination papers after the All Parties Democratic Movement announced that it would boycott the elections.
The sources said that the JUI (F) had fielded its covering candidates on all 31 seats that had been allotted to the JI.
They said that the party was negotiating with the Pakistan People’s Party, Awami National Party and PPP (Sherpao) for adjustment of seats in the NWFP.
The party has already authorised its district organisers to make adjustments with other parties at the local level.
