TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 30: Returning officers rejected nomination papers of two candidates here on Friday. A returning officer rejected the nomination papers of former Pakistan Muslim League MNA Amjad Ali Warraich for NA-92.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Hamza had submitted to Returning Officer Ijaz Butt that Warraich had a fake bachelor's degree. The returning officer asked Warraich to produce his degree for verification on Friday, but he did not. As a result, he rejected his papers.

Warraich had contested the 2002 general election on the basis of a madressa degree which he claimed was equal to the bachelor's degree. He won the election, but Hamza challenged the equivalence of his degree. Finally, a Supreme Court bench headed by deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry disqualified him from the National Assembly just 15 days before the completion of his term.

Separately, Hamza submitted an application to the returning officer to order Gojra city police to register a cheating case against Warraich for writing in his nomination papers that he was BA. Decision on this application is pending.

In another case, Kamalia Returning Officer Mian Mureed Husain rejected nomination papers of independent candidate Noman Saeed, son of former Pakistan Muslim League MPA Sardar Saeed Anwar Gujjar.

Saeed's opponent said he was under-25. Saeed could not produce his birth certificate and the returning officer rejected his nomination papers.
