LAHORE, Nov 20: The Punjab government has released Awami National Party Secretary-General Ehsan Wyne after a 17-day detention. He was set at liberty on Monday from the Rahim Yar Khan district jail where he was shifted last week.

The ANP secretary-general was arrested on Nov 3 after the proclamation of emergency rule and initially detained at the Sanda police lock-up for four days. He was later shifted to the Camp Jail after the order of detention for one month under Section 16-MPO was served on him.

Mr Wyne applied for bail which was granted to him by a local anti-terrorism court last week. But before he was set free, the government again detained him under a fresh order and shifted him to Rahim Yar Khan prison.
