GUJRANWALA, Nov 10: The citizens throughout the district have cried out against the continuous hike in kitchen items.

According to a survey conducted by this reporter, the flourmill owners and traders have declined to provide flour, sugar and ghee at the prices fixed by the government.

The district administration has fixed the price of a 20kg flour bag at Rs285 for ex-mill and Rs295 for retailers besides directing them to print the prices on every flour bag. But flourmill owners and shopkeepers are selling a good quality flour bag of 20kg for Rs350 and inferior quality from Rs285 to Rs295.

While flour is not available at utility stores throughout the district and the people are forced to buy it from the market on higher prices.

Similarly, the prices of sugar and ghee, which were being retailed from Rs28 to Rs30 per kg and Rs60 per kg before Ramazan, have been raised from Rs32 to Rs35 per kg and Rs110 per kg, respectively.

Owners of flourmills say they are unable to provide flour on official rates as the food department is not providing sufficient wheat quota to them and they are purchasing wheat from commission agents on higher prices.

Similarly, ghee manufacturers and traders say that prices of palm oil in the international market have been increased and they cannot market the commodity at the government-fixed rates.
