MUZAFFARGARH, Nov 8: Encroachments, which were removed from all roads of Muzaffargarh ahead of Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi’s visit on Nov 1, have come back again.

A Dawn correspondent has noted that the chief minister visited Muzaffargarh on Nov 1 and the very next day encroachers set up their stalls on Jhang Road, DG Khan Road and Multan Road and in the main bazaar of the city. Vegetable and fruit vendors and barbers have reoccupied their encroached places, which they were forced to leave two day before the chief minister’s visit. These people had encroached these places almost 10 years ago.

Police had also arrested some encroachers, but later released them.

“The tehsil municipal officer (TMO) removed our stalls for one day and allowed us to set up stalls again after the chief minister’s visit was over,” said a tea stall vendor, wishing not to be named.

An official of the Tehsil Municipal Administration said the encroachers approached local politicians, who asked the TMA authorities to allow them to set up their stalls again.

TMO Fareed Khirani said he could not take action against these stall owners because they had backing of political figures.

ZC budget session: On the orders of Multan bench of the Lahore High Court, the district council will meet on Nov 10 to approve the budget, it is learnt here.

There will be two sessions of the district council on Nov 10.

The LHC had also ordered the Muzaffargarh district coordination officer to go on leave for two days before the session. Now the DCO will be on leave from Thursday so that he could not influence the council members in favour of the ruling PML.

The session will be held at the district council hall at 10am.

Earlier, the local government assistant director had sent the LHC orders to the council members.
