LAHORE, Nov 6: Tanzeem-i-Islami founder and eminent religious scholar Dr Israr Ahmad has demanded that Gen Pervez Musharraf should resign as president of Pakistan and the army chief as he had ‘failed to deliver the good and has put Pakistan in great danger’.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Dr Israr said Gen Musharraf should hand over the presidency to the Senate chairman and the office of the army chief to the vice-chief of army staff.

Lauding the judges of the superior court who had refused oath under the new and the previous PCOs, he said they should form the caretaker government to hold fair and free general elections as early as possible.

He also praised the lawyers’ movement and the new president of Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan and his colleagues for the bold stand they had taken for the independence of judiciary during their movement starting after March 9.
