LAHORE, Nov 4: Qazi Hussain Ahmad, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Sunday announced launching of a protest movement against, what he called, “declaration of martial law” by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to Dawn after JI’s shoora meeting here, he said Jamaat would join lawyers’ protest on Monday (today), and a meeting of the Muttahida Majils-e-Amal had been convened on November 8 to chalk out future strategy for the alliance.

He said once the protest movement gathered momentum, the JI would call for a massive sit-in at Islamabad to oust the `unconstitutional’ rulers.

Responding to a question about starting an agitation, he said in fact Jamaat had already launched its protest drive.

After the meeting, Jamaat workers gathered to condemn the declaration of state of emergency in the country.
