LAHORE, Nov 2: The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the provincial chief secretary to submit within 10 days a report regarding reserved seats for students of Jhang district in medical colleges and their current status.

Petitioner Syed Babar, through MD Tahir advocate, said Jhang used to have a quota for students wishing to study medical in Punjab’s most prestigious colleges like King Edward Medical Collage. He produced a list of students from Jhang who were given admission to medical colleges in 1995-1996.

He said when Shahbaz Sharif became the chief minister, he abolished the quota without any reason.Since then, the district stood deprived of its due share in medical collages.

The petitioner said when Pervaiz Elahi became the chief minister, he restored the quota for medical students of Kasur, Layyah, Bhakkar, DG Khan and Rajanpur districts but Jhang was ignored again.

He asked the court to issue the government directives to restore the quota for Jhang district at the earliest.—Reporter
