The inner world of municipal library

Published November 3, 2007

SIALKOT, Nov 2: A library is the heart of any city, but the Daska Municipal Library, once accommodating hundreds of visitors and having a good number of members, has been left at the mercy of the heartless.

The only municipal library, it has fallen a victim to neglect as the Tehsil Municipal Administration has long dismissed the idea of buying new books. Layers of dust on furniture and bookracks repel visitors and readers who have started looking for other sources.

Half of the portion of the building has been occupied by the National Database and Registration Authority Swift Registration Centre for the last four years. Officials of the centre are using the leftover area as parking lot and dumping ground.

People have expressed concern over the situation and urged the provincial and district governments to take stock of the mess that is the municipal library.
