BAJAUR, March 23: The government has decided to extend the accountability drive in Fata areas and initiate inquiries against the former MNAs, senators and bureaucrats so that any attempt to influence the proposed local bodies elections in the area could be foiled.
The sources said that the government wanted to make all those accountable who had embezzled development funds and sought huge kickbacks in the previous government.
They said that the government wanted to get clean and honest people elected in the forthcoming local bodies polls and deemed it fit to initiate accountability against the former parliamentarians.
According to the sources, the NAB had started collection of information about the assets of the former and present political agents and elected representatives and the record of development schemes in the Fata.
The sources said that Fata had been exempted from any sort of check-and-balance system and audit process.
