SIALKOT, Oct 28: National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) chairman Chaudhry Daniyal Aziz has ruled out dissolution of local bodies and termed the PPP’s demand in this regard illogical.

He said the dissolution of local governments would be a `political suicide.’

He was talking to a team of Sialkot-based journalists on Sunday at Government Boys Degree College, Shakargarh.

He claimed that the LG system had changed the fate of the masses by empowering them.

He said the devolution plan was a public-welfare oriented system and it should never be shelved on any political demand.

He said the PPP and other opposing political parties should encourage the local government system in the larger national interest.

Replying to a question, the NRB chief said there was no political uncertainty in the country. He made it clear that the arrival of Benazir Bhutto did not put the ruling PML into hot waters.

He was confident that the masses would reject Benazir Bhutto in the coming general elections.

Aziz said the government was providing a level playing-field to all political parties in the country, paving the way for holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

He said the government was also ensuring the smooth implementation of the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan for all the political forces.
