LAHORE, Oct 23: Although the JUI-F has called for replacing Qazi Husain Ahmad as president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, a senior Jamaat-i-Islami leader says the matter is not on the agenda of the alliance’s supreme council.
JI leader Liaquat Baloch told Dawn on Tuesday that the chairmanship of the six-party alliance was not an issue and it would not come under discussion at the meeting of MMA’s highest decision-making body, expected to be held next month.
JUI-F Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri had said a few days ago that Qazi Husain should step down as MMA chief and give somebody else a chance to lead it.
The JUI-F and the Jamaat, the major components of the alliance, have differences on several issues, and at times it appears the five-year-old grouping would disintegrate anytime.
Baloch said the MMA would stay intact and all religious parties work together. — Political Correspondent
